Self Portraits: An International Traveling Exhibition
Opening reception: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday Jan. 20h This collaborative international art project explores an art form in which many artists want to be remembered, and includes 70 pieces produced by artists from around the world, including Alaska, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Sweden, and Spain. The work was created over a four-year period, and will be exhibited in each community where the work originated. The exhibit already appeared in Quebec, Canada, and will travel to Europe and South America after its stop in Anchorage. Organized by Proyecto’ ace – an international artist in residence centre located in Buenos Aires, Argentina – and directed by the international artist Alicia Candiani, the exhibit creates a mural of diverse identities through digital media and various printmaking techniques. The Alaska session was co-directed by University of Alaska professor and artist Garry Kaulitz. The Alaska artists represented in the show include Acacia Johnson, Clark Yerrington, Cloud Medicine Crow, Don Mohr, Enzina Marrari, Esther Hong, Hal Gage, Jen Jolliff, Keren Lowell, Petra Lisiecki, Sheila Wyne, and Ward Hulbert.
